How do cells store knowledge gained by time in neurons? - entity formation

I have two questions, I think they are linked.

What is the unit of storage in the brain? How cells store the acquired knowledge, if the neurons? Have they produce proteins, links, remember something special for a special information or registration?

How can we remember the images in our minds? and what is its origin, the cellular and molecular level? or save it to understand a study on the structural units / formations, images at specific tissues?
